Why this site exists
Seasonal climate pages are usually excellent at showing maps and probabilities, but a normal user still has to answer a practical question: “What does this mean for my city, my ski trip, or my winter?” Local Winter Outlook is a thin interpretation layer over authoritative climate data.
Independent by design
The site is not affiliated with NOAA, NWS, CPC, any ski area, travel company or equipment brand. Rankings and local labels are not paid placements.
U.S.-first beta
The first version focuses on the United States because NOAA CPC provides strong, structured national seasonal guidance and NOAA has extensive historical ENSO impact analysis. The architecture can later add Canada and other countries without changing the core method.
Editorial process
Some drafting and site-production work may be assisted by AI tools. Climate claims, probabilities and update dates are checked against the primary NOAA/CPC sources listed on the Sources page. The checker itself is rules-based and does not call a generative AI model.
Update policy
ENSO and seasonal outlooks change. The site stores the source date with the embedded data and automatically shows an update-check warning after the next scheduled CPC release date or when the ENSO snapshot becomes stale.
